God’s Will Is Good

God's Will is Good by Elizabeth George

Do not be conformed to this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2

This verse found in Romans 12 is the key to understanding what it means to follow God with all your heart.

It starts with a command, “Do not be conformed to this world”, and continues with how to obey that command, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind”. This is followed by the promise, “That you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

What an incredible promise! To know and live out God’s will should be every Christian’s desire and dream. His will is what we should strive after and we should desire to exist in the center of His astounding will. But what do we know from this verse about God’s will?

God’s will is good. His will for you reflects one of His most compelling attributes–His goodness. We have a good God. His goodness is settled forever. While circumstances around you and involving you may be difficult, hard, or downright miserable, know that God is at work, eventually (and sometimes not until eternity) making all things good.

We also, as believers, can trust that if life changes need to be made, He will be with you, guiding you, directing you, and protecting you.

Renew your mind with this truth, this promise, this fact, this certainty, this assurance. You can cry out to God for wisdom and discernment as you deal with difficult events in life. This is how you renew your mind. Rather than succumbing to your fears or shame, you can choose to think on God’s truth, faithfulness, and guidance. Believe you have a good God who causes all things, including His will, to work together for your good (Romans 8:28).

RESPOND:

Thank you, Lord, for allowing us to live in your perfect will. Renew our minds, that we may not be conformed to the world. Amen.

How did men and women in the Bible accomplish great things for God? There wasn’t any secret formula or bestselling book on success for them. In fact, they were ordinary people like you and me. What made them effective was their willingness to obey God—one decision at a time.

Power in Prayer
Power in Prayer

by Elizabeth George April 02, 2024

There are few things that can change a marriage the way prayer can. While I was an associate pastor, a couple came to my office for marriage counseling. After we pinpointed several areas of concern in their marriage that needed their attention, I asked the husband to commit the couple’s desires to the Lord. As the man finished praying, I looked up to discover that his wife was crying. She explained through her tears that this was the first time in ten years of marriage that they had prayed together as a couple!
