Handling Problems with Courage and Care

We all face problems each day that must be handled with care and courage. Aaron, Moses’ brother and second-in-command, is a sad example of how not to handle problems.

While Moses was on Mount Sinai receiving the Ten Commandments from God, Aaron was left in charge of the people of Israel. During Moses’ 40-day absence, the cried out to Aaron, “Come, make us gods that shall go before us” (Exodus 32:1).

Aaron was unwilling to face the problem or even try to persuade the people that making an idol was a bad idea. Instead, he took the easiest road to “solving” his problem—he gave in…”and made a molded calf” (verses 2, 4).

Aaron solved his dilemma in an irresponsible, cowardly manner. As a result of his failure to deal with the problem correctly, thousands of people died in God’s ensuing judgment.

The lesson from Aaron’s failure is sobering. It teaches us that every problem must be handled with care and courage. What may seem like a minor issue can easily escalate into a major crisis if it’s not handled properly. When you have a difficulty to solve, approach it as if its solution will be life-altering. Chances are high that it will be!

Power in Prayer
Power in Prayer

There are few things that can change a marriage the way prayer can. While I was an associate pastor, a couple came to my office for marriage counseling. After we pinpointed several areas of concern in their marriage that needed their attention, I asked the husband to commit the couple’s desires to the Lord. As the man finished praying, I looked up to discover that his wife was crying. She explained through her tears that this was the first time in ten years of marriage that they had prayed together as a couple!
