Putting on the Armor of God

When I write, events happening around me often show up in my books. The same thing occurs in Paul’s writing as he explains the reality of spiritual warfare. Paul pens a letter from a prison where he’s been for two years, observing Roman soldiers daily. Because he learned a lot about these soldiers’ armor and weaponry, he uses this imagery to remind us of the need to prepare for spiritual battle.

As we start a new year, we often reflect on accomplishments (or lack there of) of the past year. It is often easy to focus on all that was left undone or the regrets of unrighteous behavior or decisions. Many times we cannot face a new phase of life when we dwell on failures of the past.
