The Art of Walking by the Spirit

What a beautiful life you will experience when you “walk in the Spirit.” You will produce “the fruit of the Spirit…love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:16, 22-23). These elements of God’s grace are at the center of each day.

In simple terms, walking by the Spirit means living each moment in submission to God. It means seeking to please God with the thoughts you choose to think, the words you choose to say, and the actions you choose to take. Walking by the Spirit means obediently letting God guide you each step of the way.

Unfortunately, walking by the Spirit is not easy. Even though you have been born again by the renewing work of the Spirit, you still struggle with sin. But you can pray through each day that you would be filled by Him minute-by-minute. Respond to your minute-by-minute challenges by doing what God teaches in the Bible. And now for the big question: How do you walk with God?

One foot in front of the other
One thought at a time
One sentence at a time
One response at a time
One decision at a time
One minute at a time
One day at a time
And when you fail, stop it,
admit it, confess it, apologize for it, and go on.

In 15 Verses to Pray for Your Husband you’ll discover key Bible passages you can use as a springboard for lifting your husband up to God. Praying these is powerful because you’re praying what God desires for your spouse.

We’ve all struggled at one time or another with our ability to fully trust God. I never truly realized the extent to which I wrestled with Him over both the simplest of things, and the big things, until I had children. Yet, I would always hear Him whisper to my spirit, “I will protect them. Trust me.”

How did men and women in the Bible accomplish great things for God? There wasn’t any secret formula or bestselling book on success for them. In fact, they were ordinary people like you and me. What made them effective was their willingness to obey God—one decision at a time.

Power in Prayer

There are few things that can change a marriage the way prayer can. While I was an associate pastor, a couple came to my office for marriage counseling. After we pinpointed several areas of concern in their marriage that needed their attention, I asked the husband to commit the couple’s desires to the Lord. As the man finished praying, I looked up to discover that his wife was crying. She explained through her tears that this was the first time in ten years of marriage that they had prayed together as a couple!
