Why should we read the Bible? God’s Word is exciting and energizing. It is even thrilling! Why? Because it is life-changing and heart-transforming.
Today the Bible is my lifeline. For the first twenty-eight years of my life, I turned to everything but the Bible for help. Ever since the day I discovered the truth about Jesus Christ in the Bible, I’ve relentlessly devoured His Word. My appetite for the life-giving, life-saving, life-sustaining truths in Scripture has only increased as the years have gone by.
Proverbs 2:6 says, “The LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” What you read between the covers of your Bible is wisdom for all your trials and for all the days of your life.
God promises you wisdom—and it’s free and readily available. Your job is to pray, seek, search, and dig for God’s wisdom in His Word. God’s job—and His promise to you—is to give you all the wisdom you ask for…and all the wisdom you need.
Do you realize what this means? It means that whatever issue or problem you are facing, you don’t have to grope around in the dark, hoping you will somehow stumble upon answers. You don’t have to stab at a solution and hope you made the right choice—the wise choice, all the time fearing that maybe you made the wrong choice. No, you have a surer way to tackle life’s problems—and gain God’s peace of mind in the process!
There is so much to tend to, worry about, fear, and beware of. Every minute of every day can be full of fear and charged with anxiety. But God and His Word quell all our fears. “But whoever listens to me [wisdom] will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil. (Proverbs 1:33)
Whenever you need wisdom, you can pray to God, ask of God, look to God’s Word... and wisdom will be given to you.
Stand on this wisdom. Live by it. And teach it to your children every day so that they, too, have the thrill of a transformed life.
Lord, Your Word leads me to the refuge of Your heart. It fills me with passion to love You and compassion for loving my children. Transform me, Lord. Amen.

When something difficult happens in your life, are you ever tempted to ask, “What good could come out of this?” The event looks like a disaster. It feels like a disaster. Therefore, we quickly conclude, it is a disaster! But God did not forget His people who were suffering in Babylon. And, my friend, He won’t forget you!

Too many times in the past I’ve told others “I’m fine” in order to hide my pain and sorrows from them. The truth is, my thoughts pulled me down so far that, in private, tears regularly streamed down my face. Are you constantly thinking negative thoughts? Being a woman after God’s own heart is all about “minding your mind.”

As a young mother, I endeavored to “train a child in the way he should go,” so that “when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). A decade later, however, I wasn’t reaping the results I had expected. Angrily, I said to God, “But this isn’t the way it was supposed to be! This isn’t the way it went for this family here or that family over there. And this isn’t the way it was supposed to be for my family!”
