Are you looking for a Valentine’s Day gift for your husband? How about committing to these three things? They can make a big difference in your marriage! Compliment Instead of Complain It’s easy to get wrapped up in frustration over what our husband doesn’t do, rather than focusing on all he does do, isn’t it? […]

Most people spend their whole life building their reputation. Reputation is extremely important, and well it should be for us as Christians. But would you be willing to lose all that you’ve worked for if it meant standing up and doing the right thing to show your love for Jesus and your loyalty to the […]

So, does it seem too hard to serve like those we’ve studied these past weeks – Esther, John the Baptist, Peter, and Mary? Is it unfathomable to have an eternal perspective in the face of trials like Paul? Does living a life that reflects the holiness of your savior overwhelm or discourage you? It sounds […]

Learning as a lifestyle is not a solitary endeavor. Of course, you can gain much from reading books and listening to teaching, but don’t neglect gleaning wisdom from believers around you. “A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel” (Proverbs 1:5). Choose to ask questions. Everyone […]

Have you ever found yourself backtracking after saying or posting a not-so-sweet comment? “It was a joke! I didn’t really mean she’s ugly. She’s just way too sensitive.” Grace-filled Words You’ve heard it said that, “You cannot give away what you do not possess.” And, the Bible tells us that the words that we give […]

It’s just amazing that people—including you and me—can endure just about anything if we believe it is for something worthwhile. Knowing that His disciples would be hated, arrested, and killed for following Him, Jesus made this promise: “He who endures to the end will be saved” (Matthew 10:22). Jesus’ words and His promise still apply […]

Psalm 121 is one of comfort and consolation. The pilgrim lifts up his eyes to the hills, the same hills where the Father "promised his blessing, even life forevermore" (Psalms 133:3), and he is pleased to know that help is coming. He then proceeds to...

You have probably heard the saying, “A woman’s work is never done,” and you probably agree! It’s as Solomon mused: “That which has been is what will be… there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). Day after day we are presented with another day of work. Work is definitely here to stay, but […]

I love the tender heart of the shepherd that Jesus describes in Luke 15. When one of his 100 sheep was missing, he left the 99 and went looking for the one that was lost (verses 3-6). God...

The origin of forgiveness is in Genesis 3. What consequences happened after Adam and Eve rebelled against God in the Garden of Eden? First, the couple was sentenced to a life of pain and hard labor, neither of which they ever experienced before in Eden. Then they were expelled from the garden paradise they had always known and thrust into a sin-laden world to fend and provide for themselves. That’s the bad news.

The one prevalent human response to pain is to become resentful and bitter, either toward the person who hurt us, or toward God, or both! Bitterness against someone who has wronged you is an evil cancer that, left unchecked, can destroy you. The Bible tells us to put away bitterness (Ephesians 4:31), “looking carefully…lest any […]

Who is the most important man who ever lived? Without a doubt it’s Jesus Christ! As such, Jesus could also have been the most isolated, insulated, protected person who ever lived. We are used to people such as heads of state, influential business leaders, and celebrities separating themselves from the crowd; right? But amazingly, our […]

You may not be familiar with the approaching Jewish holiday called Purim, which celebrates the courage of a beloved heroine, Queen Esther. We don’t know her name, so let’s call her “Mrs. Noah.” She spent her days loving her husband, Noah, raising their three sons, and caring for their home. Daily life was simple, until the call came from the Lord, “I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you” (Genesis 6:18).

You probably already know about favoritism from your experiences at school, in your neighborhood, and maybe even in your family. You can tell when someone is clearly the teacher’s pet! In Matthew 18:15, Jesus offers a principle for healthy relationships that revolutionized my mindset when I sensed conflict with others. The holidays can be a special time to spend with family and friends, celebrating a common faith. But if you share the family table with unbelievers, it may be a difficult time - yet we can find peace and guidance in the Word of God. We are called to love (John 15:12-13). God Himself is love (1 John 4:8) and we are made in His image (Genesis 1:27). We are to walk as Jesus walked (1 John 2:6) and Jesus is one with God (John 1:18). The Bible is a blueprint for ministering to the lost and broken.

Paul knew the importance of strategic prayer in his own life and the lives of other. And he knew what to pray for. His prayers focused on spiritual issues. I’ve heard many sermons and read many books that tell the tale of a dozen misfits that we admonish as biblical heroes; the apostles.
