God created you and I with an incredible resource called a brain. This fascinating organ is more complex than any computer. And God expects us to put it to good use. As you look over these verses, think about how they point out the necessity of learning. And don’t forget to notice the blessings that God showers on those who increase in learning.
“Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, and give attention to gain understanding… Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth” (Proverbs 4:1,5).
You, my dear friend, can grow right where you are, no matter what. Your growth can be daily and natural – even easy. Take a look at these statements about learning:
Learning is an attitude – it involves heart and head.
Learning is cumulative – it builds upon itself.
Learning is not dependent on your IQ – it is all about your DQ (Desire Quotient).
Learning has no boundaries – except those you place on yourself.
Learning does not require social status or money – it’s free to anyone.
Learning has an ultimate priority – knowing more about Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:10).
Do any of these give you pause or reflect what might be holding your back from continued learning? You may feel that you don’t have time in your season of life. But, even just a few purposeful minutes each day adds up and boosts your resolve to learn more. You might not feel that your finances can bear taking a class or investing in a hobby. However, there are many opportunities to learn for free if you search for them.
I have often met women who struggled with studies in school and are intimidated by my challenge to never stop learning. Well, I am here to tell you that the wisdom gained by pursuing a lifestyle of learning trumps formal education any day. Never let your insecurities or busyness hold you back. You will be missing the many benefits that could be yours!
“Exalt her [wisdom], and she will promote you; she will bring you honor, when you embrace her. She will place on y-our head an ornament of grace; a crown of glory she will deliver to you.” (Proverbs 4:9)
A Prayer to Pray: “Lord you are my faithful Shepherd. You guide me toward good and right priorities. Call me to what matters and show me how to continue to grow and learn. I want my time to count, to matter, and to honor You.”
A great resource for continued learning is Jim’s book, Knowing Your Bible from A to Z, featuring basic outlines and brief personal insights for every book of the Bible.

I’ve heard it said that you can tell the spiritual maturity of a man by looking at his bank account or his credit card statements. Well, how do yours look? What do they reveal about you and your spiritual maturity? What would another person see if they were allowed a peek at your accounts?
