Our nation’s founding fathers approved the wording of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. This declaration gave the people of this newly formed country a freedom they had not experienced before.
Though it took many years for it to become a holiday that is readily celebrated, it has always been a pivotal time in our nation’s history. It was much more than a declaration. It is a celebration of independence, religious freedom, and freedom from tyranny and oppression.
Are you declaring the freedom God has given you in your life? The Lord says that the greatest kind of freedom possible belongs to His children.
As a woman, a wife, a mom, and a grandmother–I’m grateful we are free. I’m thankful to be able to pray openly with my family, to read the Bible without fear of any reprisals whatsoever, to take a stand for my faith or witness to others, and pray for those who lack these freedoms.
Jesus came so we could experience freedom. Not political freedom, or even the personal freedoms we enjoy, but freedom from sin. Whatever the situation and circumstances people of the world suffer–we are free in Christ. Rejoice! Celebrate and walk in this truth every single day!
Jesus Himself is the truth and no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). Our true freedom begins with Him. To experience true liberation and freedom, we must seek Christ and get to know Him through His word.
The oppressor, Satan, often tempts people into sin. That sin can lead to bondage: addictions, unforgiveness, fear, and many others. We know that the wages of sin is death.
We can slip off those chains that confine us by repenting of our sins and accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
Those who lived during medieval times were fully aware of the freedom that fortified walls gave them. These walls weren’t constructed to confine those who lived within them.
Instead, it kept their enemy out, giving those within the freedom to go about their daily lives without fear of attack. Our nation’s constitution which came more than ten years after the Declaration of Independence, delivered similar freedoms, through boundaries, to the people of America.
When we view God’s Word, His laws and commandments, through His eyes then we can see the freedom within them. They free us from bondage and promise blessings in return for obedience. They aren’t meant to hinder us. They protect us. They give us pure freedom to experience the life He intended for us.
Lord, I want other people to experience Your freedom through Christ. Show me who I can minister to. Please help me be prepared, and give me the words to speak. Amen.
