Keeping Up the Home

From Jim’s Heart—

Decades ago I made my first visit to the vast country of India. That visit marked my life forever. While trekking through India, I heard about a remarkable village. This village and its people were not unlike the thousands of other villages in the country. The people were poor and lived in deplorable conditions. But God had chosen this town and its people as a trophy for Himself. The villagers had come to Christ almost en masse. God had transformed their souls. As a result, the people began to transform their settlement and its homes into a thing of beauty.

And the result? In the midst of brutal poverty, this village became a beautiful and joyous testimony of the reality of Christ. It was as “a city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Why? Because its people are “the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14).

I wondered, and you can wonder along with me, Is my belief in Christ evidenced to my neighbors in the way my home presents itself? Do I take enough care and pride in my home and family so others see us as a shining witness and sparkling testimony of what we believe?

InA Husband After God’s Own Heart, Jim George addresses 12 areas of a husband’s life. He provides men with practical applications to pursue God’s heart and get to know His perfect design for their marriage.

I once read about a woman who went to an art museum. Determined to see it all, she whisked from room to room, from painting to painting. Each time she criss-crossed the museum, she saw a gentleman seated on a bench across from one painting. He remained there the entire time, drinking in the glory of one masterpiece.
