Faithfulness Like a Diamond

faithfulnessMeet Abigail (1Samuel 25:1-42). There was little cause for happiness in the soil of Abigail’s life. Her marriage appears to have been loveless and childless. Her husband was a fool, “harsh and evil in his doings,” “a scoundrel,” and a drunk. Yet we cannot miss Abigail’s loyalty, trustworthiness, steadfastness, and reliability. All these were evidenced in her faithfulness to God’s Word and to the people in her life.

When her husband foolishly refused to be kind to the powerful warrior David, Abigail quickly acted. She acted with wisdom to appease the angry warrior and save the lives of her husband, her servants, and herself. The flashing diamond of Abigail’s faithfulness glistened. Even in her problem-ridden situation, she was faithful to her husband. She remained loyal to her household, to her work in the home, and to God.

Does your life seem to be buried beneath generous layers of dust and dirt? Let your faith in God—regardless of your circumstances—shine brightly as you remain “faithful in all things” (1 Timothy 3:11). Never underestimate the brilliance and beauty of faithfulness in the eyes of God. After all, He is more concerned about you being faithful to His standards than He is about you being successful in the eyes of the world.

Start or end your day with powerful reminders of God’s work in the lives of women in the Bible and find encouragement for your own faith journey in Elizabeth George’s book, One Minute With The Women Of The Bible.

Today, let’s take a closer look at someone who sat at Jesus’ feet and received His praise. Can you imagine that—receiving God’s praise! One of my favorite words in the English language is “bittersweet.” It’s sort of like the well-known announcement, “I’ve got good news and bad news. Which do you want first?” This picturesque term always reminds me that many occurrences in life fall simultaneously into the glad/sad category, bringing forth both emotions at once.

Times of Suffering

“I’m done. This is just too much. I can’t believe this is really God’s plan for my life!” This is not an uncommon confession among Christian women. But it is true: suffering is part of this life. Every one of us will face times of trial and loss. Job’s lament is a testimony to the physical, moral, and spiritual suffering he experienced.
