Encouragement for Women

Being a wife who prays for her husband is a unique privilege. And it's a necessity because you, dear wife, might be the only person on this entire planet who is praying for him! Here are three specific ways to pray for your husband.

Most Christians (and that includes me) have serious and frequent bouts of worry. There are plenty of opportunities to turn on the worry machine! If you need help to stop worrying, here's how a woman who wants “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding” (Phil. 4:7) can break the worry habit and choose not to be anxious.

Beware of being a wife who has a “when-then” attitude, thinking, “When he does this—then I’ll do that.” This method might work some of the time, but when it does, what have you really gained? Your assignment from God is not to change your husband, but to love, follow, assist, and minister to him.

It’s a horrible fact: Everyone has been hurt by gossip or slander. No one is immune from the searing pain brought about by false or damaging information. I know I’ve been on the receiving end of such pain and damage. And I’m ashamed to say I’ve been the deliverer of it too. You’ve probably experienced both ends of gossip as well.

With shaking hands and a pained heart, I hit the end icon on my cell phone and concluded a life-shattering and life-changing call. One of my brothers had just given me the news that our dad, at age 95, had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and would need nursing care for the final days of his life.

If your husband is not a Christian, then your first and foremost assignment is to pray daily for God to draw your beloved to Himself. I cannot urge you strongly enough to pray faithfully.

“Sarai was barren; she had no child.” Seven words. A simple statement of cold, hard fact.

Perhaps Sarai (whom God later called Sarah) wondered, What’s gone wrong? What have I done? Why hasn’t God blessed me with children? On and on her questioning went…and so did her pain. Nothing could relieve it, soothe it, take it away. Childlessness was a stigma that seared deeply into her soul with each childless sunrise.
